The Tashahhud

“All greetings, prayers and good things belong to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.”

Source: Sahih Muslim 402 — from the teaching of the Prophet ﷺ

The Tashahhud is a declaration and a greeting — first to Allah, then to the Prophet ﷺ, then to all righteous believers including yourself. It ends with the Shahada, bringing the prayer full circle back to the declaration of faith you began your journey with.

Recited after the Tashahhud in the final sitting

The Salawat (Ibrahimiyyah)

“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.”

Source: Sahih Bukhari 3370 — from the teaching of the Prophet ﷺ

The Salawat is a blessing you send to the Prophet ﷺ and his family, and to the Prophet Ibrahim ﷺ and his family. It is one of the most beloved acts in Islam — a moment of connection across all the prophets.
